Black Bear on Shady Lane copy.webpWith the growing number of bear sightings in the Town and Village of Saugerties, we thought it would be a good idea to point out some online resources that provide a refresher about how to live responsibly with your black bear neighbors.

Do you know what to do when you encounter a black bear, in your travels?

What's the best approach to how to attract birds to your yard, and yet not create a "bear magnet" in the process?

Did you know that in a recent study, more than half of all incidents involving people and black bears also involved dogs?

Consider some quick reading material, to make you, your family and your pets safer, in an environment where black bears are frequent visitors to our homes and neighborhood.

Visit the "Be BearWise" page on this website -- https://saugerties.ny.us/bears -- for more information.

Photo on the right is from a posting on the Saugerties Village Facebook page by Rose Almindo Benoit, showing a black bear dining out, on Shady Lane.

Welcome to Our Town

Nestled in the Hudson Valley, Saugerties borders the Hudson River to the east, and provides views of the beautiful, scenic Catskill Mountains to the west.

Here in the Northeast corner of Ulster County, Saugerties offers ...
... history
... a wide variety of sports activities for participants and fans
... creative works of art and cultural events from locals and from artists/creators from afar
... an eclectic historic business district that includes restaurants with good food and drink, and good times that await
...  a large river (the Esopus Creek) that runs through it
... the historic and ever-scenic Hudson River
... a large, impressive dam and waterfalls
... and much, much more.
